COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Description:
The Basic Technician Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences is a foundational program designed to equip learners with essential knowledge and practical skills in pharmacy practice. The course focuses on the preparation, storage, dispensing, and distribution of pharmaceutical products in accordance with national and international standards.

Students are introduced to subjects such as basic Dispensing, Pharmacology, Diseases and Prevention, Human Anatomy and Physiology, and Communication Skills. Emphasis is placed on ethical practice, accuracy in handling medicines, and adherence to professional codes of conduct.

Upon successful completion, graduates are competent to work as pharmaceutical assistants or dispensers under the supervision of registered pharmacists in hospitals, health centers, dispensaries, and community pharmacies. They also qualify to progress to the Ordinary Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

CERTIFICATION

There is no certification for NTA Level 4.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

• Upon successful completion of the Basic Technician Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences, the learner will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of pharmaceutical sciences, including pharmaceutics, pharmacology, and pharmaceutical chemistry.

  2. Apply basic principles of dispensing, compounding, and storage of medicines in accordance with professional standards.

  3. Identify, classify, and handle various pharmaceutical dosage forms safely and accurately.

  4. Adhere to professional ethics, laws, and regulations governing pharmacy practice in Tanzania.

  5. Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare professionals, and the community on matters related to medicine use.

  6. Maintain proper records and ensure quality assurance in the handling and distribution of pharmaceutical products.

  7. Demonstrate teamwork, responsibility, and professionalism within healthcare settings.
